Sydney: Former Australia opener Simon Katich has been replaced as captain of New South Wales in Australian domestic cricket by all-rounder Stephen O'Keefe.
Cricket NSW said on Wednesday that O'Keefe, who has represented Australia at Twenty20 level, will lead NSW whenever Australia captain and NSW teammate Michael Clarke is unavailable.
Katich, who lost his Cricket Australia central contract earlier this year, had captained NSW since 2002. He said he accepts and respects the decision to appoint a new captain "with an eye to the future."
Cricket NSW chief executive Dave Gilbert said Katich's "leadership both on and off the field over the past nine years has set the benchmark."
