SL-Aus: Rain delays start of 3rd day's play
Galle: Sri Lanka will be ruing the fact of getting bowled out for a paltry 105 on a Galle pitch that has been assisting the spinners right from day one of the first Test against Australia.
And though they reduced Australia to 115-6 in their second innings, the 168-run lead they conceded in the first innings might just be enough for the Kangaroos to turn the screws on their opponents.
The first thing on Lankan’s mind would be to take the remaining four Aussie wickets as quickly as they can in the morning session on the third day and thus giving themselves an outside chance of chasing down the total.
But the task will be a lot tougher even for the likes of Sangakkaras and Jayawardenes, arguably two of the greatest cricketers the island nation has produced, to face Nathan Lyon - the bowler who is quite similar in mould to Graeme Swann of England - as the off-spinner got good purchase on day two and his five wickets on debut illustrates the fact well.
Lyon bagged 5-34 including a wicket with his first ball, and seamer Shane Watson took three wickets in nine deliveries to finish with 3-11 and help end Sri Lanka's first innings on 105, giving Australia a lead of 168.
Captain Michael Clarke hit a fluent 60 on a difficult pitch to put Australia in commanding position at the end of day two.
