Srinivasan admits to irregularities in IPL

Mumbai: BCCI secretary N Srinivasan has admitted that the cricket governing body in India was taken for a ride by the suspended India Premier League chairman Lalit Modi, but said they can't put onus on the former chairman and needed to accept their responsibility for financial irregularities in the cash-rich tournament.

The revelation came into light amidst BCCI's reluctance to come under the Right To Information Act proposed by sports Minister Ajay Maken, who has been insisting on making the cricket board more transparent and accountable to public.
The BCCI had, earlier, blamed Modi for the financial irregularities during the first three editions of the IPL, claiming that other senior officials had no idea of wrongdoings since Modi was given a free hand.
Srinivasan stated that: "We were taken for a ride. I know we cannot plead before you that we did not know all this was happening. Your question would be, were you not vigilant? What did you do? I am sorry, sir, there is no defence for me. No defence in front of you. So, I am not pleading that at all. We just put our heads down."
