1st Test : Aus set 379-run target for SL
Galle: Australia has set Sri Lanka a formidable 379 runs to win the first Test after spinner Rangana Herath bagged a career-best 5-79 to end the visitors' second innings for 210 on the third day on Friday.
The hosts have more than seven sessions to score the runs but it will be an uphill task on a pitch unfavorable for batting at the Galle International Stadium.
Australia's Nathan Lyon grabbed a five-for on day two of the first Test against Sri Lanka
On a pitch crumbling since the opening day, Herath extracted sharp turn and bounce to finish with 8-133 in the match. Seamer Chanaka Welegedara returned with figures of 2-13.
The left-armer bagged his fifth five-wicket haul and bettered his previous best bowling in an innings, 5-99 against Pakistan two years ago.
Australia resumed a rain-delayed third day on 115-6 with a comfortable 283-run, second-innings lead and were helped by a useful 40-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Usman Khawaja and Ryan Harris.
Overnight batsman Mitchell Johnson was the first out for the day when he top-edged a sweep shot against Herath for a high catch to wicketkeeper Prasanna Jayawardene.
Khawaja made a crucial 26 before Welegedara trapped him lbw. The last pair, Trent Copeland and Nathan Lyon, contributed 32 runs combined to lift Australia's chances.
Captain Michael Clarke topscored with 60 in the innings.
Australia scored 273 in its first innings then skittled Sri Lanka for 105.
