Strauss hits career-best score with Middlesex
London: England Test captain Andrew Strauss hit a career-best 184 not out for Middlesex on the opening day of their County Championship second division clash against Leicestershire at Lord's on Tuesday.
His innings and a century from Sam Robson left Middlesex well-placed at 370 for one on the first day of four.
Strauss has retired from limited-overs internationals so is not in the England squad for Wednesday's Twenty20 match against India at Old Trafford and the subsequent five one-dayers with the World Cup holders.
Instead, having led England to the top of the Test standings with a 4-0 series win over India, he is seeing out the season with Middlesex, the county Strauss has represented for all his senior career.
Strauss was quickly into his stride, hitting the first of 19 fours and two sixes, when he pulled former England seamer Matthew Hoggard.
He reached his 42nd first-class hundred with his 15th boundary and at stumps was in sight of a maiden double century, having faced 254 balls.
