Bangalore: Just like Group A, where the fate of the teams looking to qualify for the semifinals of the Champions League Twenty20 was decided only on the last day of the group’s round robin matches, Group B's future will also be decided on Tuesday when the two other semifinalists will be confirmed.
In day's first match, England’s County side Somerset will take on South African Warriors while the IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore will be up against the South Australia Redbacks in the second game at night.
The RCB are at the bottom of Group B with two points, while Redbacks, with three points, are placed third.
Thanks to the 51-run win against Somerset, courtesy a blinder of an innings by Chris Gayle, RCB have a healthy net run rate of +0.438.
However, rain can also decide the fate of the teams. An abandonment of Wednesday's matches will mean that Kolkata Knight Riders, with four points, will make it to the semis along with Warriors.
After a poor start to the tournament, with two back-to-back defeats, RCB’s CLT20 campaign was back on track when they registered a victory on Sunday. The IPL-4 runners-up will hope that their players show the same collective effort that they showed in their last game to get past the strong Redbacks on Tuesday.
The complexion of the group would have been different if the match between the Somerset and Redbacks had not been called off. In that case, the scenario would have been clearer, as either of them could have been in a position to stake claims to the last-four spots.
