Ruhunu Eleven ready for CLT20

New Delhi: Ruhunu Eleven will be the team from Sri Lanka at the 2011 Champions League Twenty 20 competition to be held in India from September 19 - October 8.
Ruhunu play Trinidad and Tobago on September 19 which will be followed by their clash against Leicestershire in their second game of the qualifying stage.
The team led by Mahela Udawatte qualified for the third edition of CL T20 by edging out Wayamba in the final of the Inter-Provincial Twenty20 tournament held in Sri Lanka.
Heading into the 2011 edition of the island nation's T20 competition, Ruhunu boasted of names like Sanath Jayasuriya and left-arm pacer Chanaka Welegedara.
Of their first four matches in the tournament, Ruhunu managed to win two games. Ruhunu beat Kandurata by 40 runs thanks to a 53-ball 63 by Dinesh Chandimal. They then went on to register a comprehensive 84-run victory against the Combined Provinces team with their bowlers knocking over the opponents for just 90 runs in 13 overs.
That helped them qualify for the semi-final stage of the competition where they played Kandurata for the second time in the tournament. Batting first, Ruhunu managed a competitive total of 155 but Welegedara’s three for 26 helped them trounce their opponents by seven runs.
In the final, Ruhunu played three-time title winners Wayamba. After Ruhunu scored 198 while batting first, Wayamba managed to send the game to the super over by tying Ruhunu’s score.
In the super-over, Ruhunu managed to better Wayamba’s score of six by hitting nine runs off their first five deliveries to close out the match.
