What is unfit Sehwag doing on Eng tour?
New Delhi: Virender Sehwag once again had a confused look on his face when England's players and bowler James Anderson went up in appeal in the very first over of India's innings in the Oval Test. After hitting two wonderful boundaries on the third and fourth delivery, he was caught plum in front of his wickets and had to make the long walk back to the pavilion.
After England declared their first innings at 591/6, Indian fans would have thought this is the right pitch for the explosive opener to get back to form but the right-handed batsman showed no signs of improvement and did not help India's cause.
BCCI's gamble on recalling the unfit Sehwag for the English tour backfired spectacularly and has been one of the worst decisions made by India's cricketing governing body. After a disastrous showing in the third Test where the swashbuckling opener failed miserably and scored a first ball duck in both innings, things got worse in the fourth Test.
Sehwag yet again showed that he lacks consistency and thoughtfulness. He knew very well that this wicket will help the batsmen if he sees of the new ball and can help India salvage pride with a draw in the Oval Test, but he missed a straight delivery from Anderson and was rightly adjudged LBW.
Sehwag's return to the Indian Test squad didn't look hastened on the surface, but the body language of Sehwag also does not give good signs to the upcoming stars. Sehwag didn't seem like giving his 100 per cent in this match as well and has still problems diving and bending.
With rain washing away one whole session of play, he had enough time to plan his strategy and come on the pitch and at least get himself ready for the upcoming ODIs but after three consecutive failures, it has raised some serious questions about BCCI's selection
