Pataudi ignored during presentation ceremony
London: Former India captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi was given cold shoulder by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) during the post-series presentation ceremony where English captain Andrew Strauss was officially handed the sponsors' trophy rather Pataudi Trophy for which the teams were officially playing for.
During the post-match presentation ceremony, Nawab Pataudi was called on the presentation dais along with other dignitaries which included ECB chairman Giles Clarke and sponsors' representative.
However former England captain Michael Atherton completely ignored Pataudi's presence and England captain was presented with Npower Trophy rather than Pataudi Trophy.
Once the organisers realised the goof-up, they presented the Pataudi Trophy to Strauss but it was when the telecast for the presentation ceremony was over.
Another former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was miffed with way it was handled.
"Firstly, I believe there shouldn't be two trophies and teams should play for one trophy. No harm in having the sponsors as they pour money into the game. But it was certainly not nice to find Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi standing there and the captain being presented sponsors' trophy," fumed Gavaskar.
Gavaskar was again critical of the double standards that existed when it came to rebuking the sponsors who are supporting IPL.
"If the England team's sponsors want it, they don't find it an issue but if IPL has a 'DLF Maximum' or a 'Citibank Moment of Success', there are so many issues. I simply don't understand the double standards."
